Warning: This article may contain information about Brett Favre. Regardless of how annoying talking and/or hearing about Brett Favre may be, it is evident that Minnesota’s chance of making another Super Bowl run depends on Favre coming back. However, Minnesota has other problems on their plate. But even with all of these problems, NFL Football Lines would suggest that the Vikings would find themselves in the playoffs, yet again.

Even before Favre came, Minnesota was a playoff team. However, the idea of Tavaris Jackson being the team’s quarterback is not a very appealing thought. While he has always had some raw talent, he has never been able to utilize it in winning fashion. If he took over, it would make the load even tougher on Adrian Peterson. Speaking of Peterson, while he may be the best running back in the league, he had his fair share of problems last year. Peterson lost six fumbles during the regular season, and also fumbled the ball twice in Minnesota’s NFC Championship playoff loss to the New Orleans Saints. And, Peterson’s backup, Chester Taylor, recently bolted for Chicago. So regardless if Favre comes back or not, Peterson has his hands full.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Vikings could be looking at suspensions. When all on the field, the Vikings have an elite defense, which is anchored by their defensive line. But because of their incident with water pills, Kevin and Pat Williams will each have to serve four-game suspensions. Luckily for Minnesota, the beginning of their season is rather easy, as no opponents in those first four games made the playoffs last year. But having two elite players missing 25% of the season will certainly throw things off.

Overall, no matter what happens, the Vikings are still a good football team. But if Brett Favre, Kevin Williams, and Pat Williams couldn’t lead the Vikings to the Super Bowl last year, what can happen this year? Only time will tell.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson said Thursday that his back injury is "not a big deal at all," meaning he should play against the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. Peterson has been limited in practice the last two days because of the injury. He ran for 92 yards and one touchdown last weekend against the Detroit Lions and leads the NFL in rushing heading into the Vikings' Sunday home opener against the 49ers.

"God willing, I will be out there playing," Peterson said. "Not a big deal at all."

Even with Brett Favre at quarterback, Peterson is the key to the Vikings' offense. He draws so much attention from opposing defenses who stack eight or nine men near the line of scrimmage that he opens up things for the passing game. The reigning NFL rushing champion has run for 272 yards through two weeks and already has scored four touchdowns.

In the debate over who's the best running back in the NFL, Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress agrees with Jim Brown, not LaDainian Tomlinson. Childress came to Adrian Peterson's defense Wednesday after Tomlinson took a few shots at the Vikings' running back in a recent Los Angeles Times story.
When asked about it at practice Wednesday, an unusually emphatic Childress said he has seen Peterson improve "by leaps and bounds" in all phases of the game since he entered the league in 2007.

"LaDainian is a hell of a back and he's entitled to his opinion," Childress said. "I'm going to tell you, my guy is the best football player in the National Football League and he's the best running back in the National Football League, and I believe that."

Peterson is the reigning NFL rushing champion and also holds the single-game record for rushing yards (296) -- set against Tomlinson's Chargers at the Metrodome in 2007. Peterson has rushed for 3,101 yards in his first two seasons, leading many to call him the best running back in the game.

“Would it have been nice?” said Peterson, meeting the media Friday afternoon in his first comments of Vikings training camp at Minnesota State University Mankato. “Yeah, I can sit here and say it would have been nice for our guys to learn from Brett Favre. He’s been in the league for 18 years. It’s not like we’re talking about a really cool guy. We’re talking about Brett Favre. I don’t care how old he is, he’s a Hall of Fame quarterback. So that changes the whole scenario.”
